The XLR8 Assembled 4.2L Timing Chain Kit for the B6 S4. Includes JHM mechanical adjusters, all timing chains, guides, and relevant seals and gaskets. We include gaskets not included in other kits because at some point they do present themselves. We like to take the "do it once and do it right" approach and this is the most reliable list of parts we have compiled over the years to get this job done the first time. This kit is developed to make sure the repair lasts through the remaining life of the vehicle. This is the "soup to nuts" kit, leaving no stone un-turned.

I THOUGHT THESE HAD A TIMING BELT?!

The quick answer is Timing Chain. The B6 & B7 S4 4.2 liter engine utilizes a chain driven timing system which is located on the backside of the engine facing the firewall.

A question you might ask is: If this car doesn’t have a timing belt, doesn’t the chain mean this is maintenance free? Unfortunately, this is not the case. The timing chain itself may never require replacement, however, other components of the timing system are weaker points.
